Kalogria
Beach Kalogrias
Starting from THEA MARRE, you can enjoy swimming in some of the most famous beaches of the Peloponnese in a few minutes. Closer are the two wonderful, organized, sandy and crowded beaches of Stoupa, which are about 5′ away by car. One is the one of the same name, right in front of the settlement and the beach shops, while the second is of Kalogria, located in an adjacent bay. Cool blue-turquoise waters that are almost always calm and thick blond sand make up an idyllic setting reminiscent of an island.
On the beach of Kalogria you will find the traces of the famous writer Nikos Kazantzakis! He lived there for two years (1917 – 1918) together with the legendary hero of his novel “Life and State of Alexis Zorba”! Specifically, in 1917, Kazantzakis bought the coal mine of Prastova, right above the beach, and appointed Zorbas as foreman. At the northern end of the beach is the house where the author lived with Zorba, while at the southern end, very close to the beach, there is the “cave of Kazantzakis”, where he found refuge to read and write. In addition, on the beach in the late afternoon, you have the opportunity to enjoy one of the best sunsets in Greece.
